PUBLIC ART COMMISSIONS | LOOM TO THE MOON
Reflections on home

Loom to the Moon is a largescale interactive installation that reaches from the ground floor of the West Wing Atrium, John Radcliff Hospital in Oxford towards the sky. It celebrates the inspirational vision that Skye Hall had to create a loom band to the moon while he was a patient with an aggressive brain tumour at the hospital. This installation uses some of the record-breaking 12.5km handmade bracelet of loom bands made by Skye, his family, friends and children all over the world.

The installation includes a three-storey high dynamic digitally printed vinyl drawing using loom band patterns and shapes as well as two large Perspex boxes containing nearly 200 interactive cog wheels incorporating loom bands embedded in clear resin. In addition to the window installation, Jane collaborated with Blue Skye Thinking and children’s book illustrator, Nick Sharratt, to create a gigantic vortex charity collection box for the Children’s Hospital. It is decorated with her loom band drawings and illustrations from Nick’s You Choose in Space book. Money collected in the vortex goes to the Children’s Hospital Charity.

The installation was commissioned through Artlink, Oxford Hospital Charity Arts Programme and funded by the Children’s Brain Tumour Charity Blue Skye Thinking.
