EXHIBITIONS | 3 MILE STAIRCASE

3 Mile Staircase has an ethereal presence. It gives the impression that it is a staircase made with beams of light that are projected across an empty space. In actual fact, it comprises several thousand nails hammered into two walls and three miles of luminous yellow and blue fishing line strung backwards and forwards to create a three-dimensional staircase. The viewer cannot physically climb, nor pass through, the staircase she can only stand at the bottom step and imagine what it is like to reach the top. This installation was part of my final MFA show at Edinburgh College of Art in 1995.
